Common questions
Options expiration FAQ
Do all in-the-money options get exercised?
Many in-the-money options are processed under exercise procedures, but instructions, thresholds, broker processes, and exceptions matter. Verify with current broker documentation.
Can I avoid assignment by waiting?
No. If you are short an option, assignment risk is part of the obligation. Closing before expiration is one way to remove that specific short contract risk.
What if my option is exactly at the strike?
At-the-money and near-the-money options deserve extra attention because small price moves and instructions can change the outcome.
Is this financial advice?
No. This is general education and cannot see your account, broker rules, objectives, or risk tolerance.
